Don’t Get Killed in Alaska Premiers! September 19, 2013
An exciting week ahead, with Don’t Get Killed in Alaska getting its premier — and being chosen as a Critics’ Pick for the Calgary International Film Festival.
Starring Tommie-Amber Pirie, the film first hits the big screen on Friday, September 19 at Cinefest Sudbury International, then moves on to Calgary.
Here’s what the Sudbury programmers have to say:
“Liney (Pirie) has always been “one of the guys.” She’s not the girl that boys chase after. That is, until she meets Dan (Lewis), a charming labourer with big ambitions for the both of them. In a down economy, Liney and Dan dream of moving to Alaska to find work on a fishing boat and start a new life together. They just need a little cash to get there. When Liney asks her family for a loan, old tensions boil up and Dan’s intentions are called into question. Don’t Get Killed in Alaska explores a young women’s struggle to forge her own destiny in spite of what her family and the world expects of her.”
Written and directed by Bill Taylor, the film also stars Rosemary Dunsmore, Oliver Dennis, Gianpaulo Venuta and Ben Lewis. I’m co-producer, Laura Perlmutter and Andrew Nicholas McCann Smith of First Love Films are the producers, while Dan Bekerman of Scythia Films is executive producer. Ben Lichty is the cinematographer and Michelle Szemberg the editor, with an all-round excellent crew behind them.
