The King of Car Thieves August 26, 2014
I’m delighted that our feature film project, The King of Car Thieves, has been accepted into the Ontario Media Development Corporation’s annual International Financing Forum at the 2014 Toronto International Film Festival, which starts next week.
Producers Eric Jordan and Paul Stephens of The Film Works join a distinguished group of Canadian and international producers at the IFF at TIFF (love saying that) in a series of meetings, round tables and discussions. And cocktails, of course.
Eric and Paul’s most recent feature is the Oscar-nominated In Darkness, directed by the iconic Agnieszka Holland, which is based on the true story of a sewer worker in Nazi-occupied Poland who hid a group of Jews in the city’s sewers. The ten were among only 1,000 survivors from the city’s huge pre-war Jewish population.
The King of Car Thieves is inspired by another true story, this time of a legendary international car thief. It will be shot in both India and Canada by director Deepa Sahi. The producer in India is the award-winning Ketan Mehta, while I am writing the script.
We couldn’t be more pleased with the honour.
